Raya Islam
Graduate Student
Raya is a scholar of urban justice, whose work intersects history, policy, law, planning, mapping, and data analysis. Their work as a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow at Emory University centered around the racialized development of their hometown, New York City, and its ethnic community formations, using the Bangladeshi American community of the city as a case study. They hope to explore how race, mobility, space and place, gender and sexuality, critical geography, law, and mapping intersect in urban contexts.
