Isra Syed is a doctoral student in American Studies. Her interests are in American religious history, race studies, gender studies, histories of imperialism, and the law. Her research focuses on the manners in which American constitutional law, property law, and criminal law have operated as religious objects in the past and present.  

Isra holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. in History from Yale College.  She previously clerked for Judge Morgan Christen on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and Judge William K. Sessions III in the District of Vermont, and she is a member of the California Bar
