Alice earned a BA from Wesleyan University in Theatre and German Literature and an MFA in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism from the Yale School of Drama. Now a PhD candidate, her dissertation research explores the patterns and stakes of history-making and post-colonialism by mining the performance culture and built environment of Fredericksburg, Texas, a town founded as a German colony in the mid-1840s. Alice has presented and published work on such topics as gender in photography, racial realities onstage, Goethe’s Faust, and working with anonymous archival photographs. While at Yale, Alice served as project director, researcher, and writer for the walking tour Women at Yale, which can be viewed at www.yale.edu/womenatyale.
