Congratulations to Arya Sundaram ‘21, winner of the Norman Holmes Pearson Prize for the best senior project in American Studies! Arya’s project, “The Discipline and Punishment of Poor Black Parents: An Ethnography of the New York City Child Welfare System During the COVID-19 Pandemic,” provides an analysis of NYC’s child welfare system and the surveillance and punishment of parents during a global health crisis.
