Congratulations to Abby Walker ‘23, winner of the Norman Holmes Pearson Prize for best senior project in American Studies! Abby’s project, “Finding Frankie Baker: The Folk-Tale Muder-Ballad ‘Frankie and Johnny’ and the Woman Behind the Song,” uses a combination of audio and visuals to examine the historical memory and historical record behind a folk song and explore its many iterations, paying particular attention to race, gender, and class.
