Migrant Justice Initiative Webinar, We are Not Dreamers

Event time:
Wednesday, September 23, 2020 - 5:00pm
Event description:

The Migrant Justice Initiative invites your participation in a webinar devoted to the new book, We are not Dreamers: Undocumented Scholars Theorize Undocumented Life in the United States (Duke University Press, 2020)

Theorizing those excluded from the Dreamer category—academically struggling students, transgender activists, and queer undocumented parents—the contributors call for an expansive articulation of immigrant rights and justice that recognizes the full humanity of undocumented immigrants while granting full and unconditional rights. Illuminating how various institutions reproduce and benefit from exclusionary narratives, this volume articulates the dangers of the Dreamer narrative and envisions a different way forward.

Speakers include the editors, Leisy Abrego (UCLA), Genevieve Negrón-Gonzales (USF) in conversation with contributors Gabriela Monico (Paralegal, Law Office of Helen Lawrence), Joel Sati (Yale Law School), and Katy Maldonado Dominguez (GSAS/American Studies)

The Migrant Justice Initiative is a research and education project that fosters collaboration among scholars and migrant-led organizations in documenting and amplifying migrant social movements in North America. We have the generous support of the Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration (RITM).
