Clara Wilson-Hawken is a PhD candidate in African American Studies and American Studies. She graduated cum laude from Princeton University in 2015 with a degree in English and a certificate in African American Studies. Her dissertation, “‘Am I That Easy To Forget’: Race, Gender, and Unsung Voices in the Music Industry 1945 – 1985”, centers black women’s musical and non-musical labor in order to theorize the racial, gendered, and class-based power structures that shaped the music industry in the United States.
