Claire Schwartz is a PhD candidate in African American Studies, American Studies, and Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. Her dissertation A Sidelong Glance: Art, Archive, and Visions of Blackness in the Postmodern City looks at urban space as an alternative to figuration in contemporary Afrodiasporic poetry and visual art. Her poetry has appeared or is forthcoming in the BelieverBennington ReviewThe Massachusetts Review, and Prairie Schooner, and her essays, reviews, and interviews have appeared in The Iowa ReviewLos Angeles Review of BooksVirginia Quarterly Review, and elsewhere. She is the author of bound (Button Poetry, 2018).
