Event description:

Join us for a 50th anniversary screening of BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID, starring Robert Redford and Yale School of Drama alumnus Paul Newman, and directed by Yale College grad George Roy Hill. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Wesleyan’s Joel Pfister. “Butch and Sundance” was the biggest box office hit of 1969, when Vincent Canby called it “the last exuberant word on movies about the men of the mythic American West who have outlived their day.” It won four Academy Awards (screenplay, cinematography, score, and song) and was selected for the National Film Registry in 2003. 35mm print from the Yale Film Archive.

This “Democracy in America” and “Treasures from the Yale Film Archive” screening is presented by 320 York Humanities, Films at the Whitney, and the Yale Film Study Center with support from Paul L. Joskow ’70 M.Phil., ’72 Ph.D.
