Claire Schwartz (joint with African American Studies and Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies) received her B.A. cum laude in Political Science and Africana Studies from Williams College. Her dissertation A Sidelong Glance: Art, Archive, and Visions of Blackness in the Postmodern City looks at urban space as an alternative to figuration in contemporary Afrodiasporic poetry and visual art. In 2014, she was a student curator of Contemporary Art/South Africa, an exhibition at the Yale University Art Gallery. Her poetry has appeared in Apogee, Cream City Review, PMS: poemmemoirstory, and Prairie Schooner, and her essays, reviews, and interviews in Electric Literature, The Georgia Review, the Virginia Quarterly Review and elsewhere. She is working on a collection of interviews with black american women poets.
